UMP JSC anniversary
On October 29, 2019 Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC celebrates the 70th anniversary. On this day in 1949 an enterprise turned out its first product – Thorium Oxalate. At the present moment the plant is a world leader for production of uranium, beryllium, tantalum and niobium products.
Establishment of UMP was one of the most important events for Ust-Kamenogorsk City: new working places, sociocultural facilities, schools, kindergartens, hospitals and residential areas were created. From a small enterprise with several workshops to a large company - this is the path of a giant of industrial branch! At the present moment an enterprise’s products used in nuclear, aviation, rocket and space technology, in electronics, medicine, instrument engineering, science and many other branches.
Since 1997 UMP JSC is an affiliate company of the National atomic company Kazatomprom. Construction of Ulba-FA plant (enterprise of fuel assemblies’ production for nuclear power plants) is one of the significant projects of UMP JSC. Output of the plant’s first products is scheduled for 2021.
Project on establishment the IAEA LEU Bank at the premises of UMP JSC was successfully implemented in the Republic of Kazakhstan on the initiative of Nursultan Nazarbayev, First President of Kazakhstan – Elbasy and under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and NAC Kazatomprom JSC. This project reflects the significant contribution of our country to nuclear disarmament, promotion of an international security and development of nuclear power industry.
An enterprise has done a lot of work on production upgrading over the last years. Technical re-equipping is carried out at the Uranium Operations. Certificate on successful completion of regular certification of the process technology of fuel pellets production for AFA 3G fuel assemblies was obtained. Beryllium Operations has mastered an output of the new types of products. A long-term agreement on supplying to China the high-purity technical grade beryllium was signed. Tantalum Operations also put into production new types of products.
As of today, the team of an enterprise develops technologies, apply new types of products, expands the circle of customers, carries out an extensive upgrade of equipment, adopting an experience from the honoured veterans of the plant. We will continue all initiatives with dignity, we will develop and move forward! – noted Rustam Medeo, Executive Board Chairman.
Achievements of the plant are the results of coordinated work of all divisions. Scientific and technological potential, human resources, experience, professional competence and hard work of UMP JSC employees allows to make steady progress towards the target goals and achieve the highest results.
According to a long-established tradition, on the eve of Plant’s Day UMP note that persons who made a significant contribution to the common goal. In this year two employees were entered into the Plant’s Honor Book, two dynasties of metallurgists were registered, a title “Plant’s veteran” were awarded to 20 plant workers. 10 employees were awarded with Certificates of Honor, over 160 plant workers were thanked.
