Anniversary Lot
On March 9, a significant event took place in life of Workshop «B», Uranium Operations. The division produced and delivered to Finished Products Storage four thousand five-hundredth lot of U3O8 obtained from the chemical concentrate of natural Uranium (Yellow Cake) of Kazakhstan deposits.
The history of processing yellow cake at Uranium Operations dates back to January 2000. Twenty years ago, 500 tons of finished products were received in 12 months. Every year increasing the volume, Workshop «B» has now increased the volume of production by eight times!
It should be particularly noted that the division receives U3O8 of nuclear purity suitable for direct fluorination without additional cleaning operations at conversion plants. This quality of finished products in the Republic of Kazakhstan is produced only by Ulba Metallurgical Plant!
Many specialists of the Uranium Operations have made a significant contribution to the more than twenty-year activity in processing of yellow cake. If we talk about managers and engineering and technical workers, they are: Nikolay Abramov, Sergey Bezhetskyi, Igor Korobeynikov, Andrey Rufin, Evgenyi Malyshkin, Ivan Serdyukov, Seymikhan Akhmetov, Yuri Varyvdin, Andrey Gofman, Andrey Grechanik, Konstantin Kuzmin, Viktor Korotin, Sergey Perminov, Boris Glinsky, Sergey Mikhalchuk, Evgenyi Kovtun, Evgenyi Sozonov, Vladimir Panfilov, Sergey Kovalev, Pavel Kryzhanovsky, Stanislav Demidov, Gadil Kasymbekov, Taras Mazurov, Evgeny Peresedov, Dmitry Petrov, Alexander Cherdantsev.
Today's achievements would not have been possible without the painstaking daily work of operators-Georgyi Tikhonov, Dmitryi Astrakhantsev, Sergey and Alexander Lantushenko, Vladimir Goryachev, Ivan Fedorov, Nikolay Melnichenko, Vladimir Pekhno, Alexey Serbinenko, Viktor Tyutyunikov. Much has been done thanks to the efforts of specialists of the group on accounting for nuclear fissionable materials, Alexander Svetakov and Tatyana Vasilyeva.
Considerable loads have also fallen on shoulders of power and mechanical services whose representatives can celebrate labor victory along with technologists. For special achievements in terms of improving technical design of yellow cake processing process, we should mention Power Engineers-Vladimir Kornev, Nikolay Ryzhikh, Gennadyi Sagachev, Mechanics-Gennady Korchagin, Vyacheslav Kamchatny, Alexander Molyavko, Vyacheslav Mikhalovsky, Kaidar Nurgaliyev and Yuri Udartsev. The trouble-free operation of devices was provided by Instrumentation Engineers Yuri Ryzhkov, Alexander Pobedinsky and Alexander Dyukarev.
A large amount of work on preparation of products for shipment was carried out by Decontaminators-Marina Kochubey, Oksana Kharchenko, Lyudmila Kostogrud, Galina Pobedinskaya, Saule Suurova and Shynyasyl Ileubaeva.
Unfortunately, many of these wonderful people are no longer with us but the memory of what they did for our production will always be alive.
Processing of chemical concentrate of natural Uranium from Kazakhstan's deposits continues successfully. Now, the efforts of the specialists of Workshop «B» and specialists of Scientific Center are aimed at reducing the waste that occurs during this process as well as at increasing performance of equipment operation.
Yellow cake represntes a mixture of compounds of Ammonium Polyuranates and other Uranium compounds.
