2011 – Two-time winner of "Senim-2011" competition

Ulba Metallurgical Plant Joint-Stock Company became a winner of “Senim-2011” republican competition in two nominations: “Best Employing Company in the Regions with More than 250 Employees” and “Best HR Project”.

Award ceremony took place on March 1 in Astana as part of the VII International Conference “Human Resource Management: Integrated HR” organized with the support of Association of HR Managers of Kazakhstan and “Samruk-Kazyna” Corporate University. Winners were awarded by the head of NWF “Samruk-Kazyna” Mr .Umirzak Shukeyev.
The purpose of “Senim” competition is to determine the best employers of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2011, who are trusted by workers and population as a whole. Uniqueness of the competition, according to the organizers’ opinion, is that the sources of information for determining the winners are a sociological survey of the population of Kazakhstan in 14 regions; a survey of the involvement of employees of companies participating in the tender; assessments by an expert jury of HR policies of companies (employer questionnaire) and “Best HR project implemented by the company”.
To evaluate the activities of UMP JSC at the end of 2011, the competition organizers conducted a sociological survey of residents of the East Kazakhstan region. In addition, on the website of the Corporate University “Samruk-Kazyna”, a survey of 684 employees of the enterprise was conducted. The questions for the residents of Ust-Kamenogorsk and the workers of the plant were different, but the goal was one: to find out what they think about Ulba Metallurgical Plant.
The results of the polls showed that UMP has a reputation as an enterprise where labor relations are established strictly in accordance with the Labor Legislation. The plant has created the safest working conditions, salary is growing steadily and paid, its employees enjoy a package of social benefits and guarantees. Management meetings with the team are regularly held, which provide complete information about the current situation and the development prospects of the enterprise. Answering the questionnaire, the factory workers noted that the personnel management system operating at the enterprise is open and transparent. Ulba employees honor the traditions of the plant and contribute to the formation of corporate culture.
These data were confirmed by the documents that UMP provided to the jury of the competition: “Employer Questionnaire”, “Labor Schedule Rules for UMP Employees”, “Regulations on Remuneration and Material Incentives for Employees of the Industrial and Production Complex of UMP JSC”, “Collective Agreement”, programs technical training and others.
HR project “Improvement Motivation at UMP JSC”, which also won first place, was created on the basis of the “Program of 10,000 Improvements” operating at the plant, which is based on the principles of the Japanese Kaizen Improvement System. Innovation of the project is that the work carried out in this direction allows us to reveal and develop intellectual potential of the employee and involve him in the improvement of production. Since the beginning of the program, about two thousand people have taken part in it.
As a result, UMP JSC became the only company that was awarded two high awards of this prestigious competition.
