Ulba Design Institute (UDI) is a structural unit of UMP JSC, created in 1992 on the basis of the Ust-Kamenogorsk branch of Novosibirsk branch of the All-Union Research and Design Institute of Integrated Energy Technology (UKF NO VNIPIET) and the department of the Chief Designer of UMP. The Institute includes qualified specialists of various profiles with extensive experience, capable of performing complex projects of industrial, civil and agricultural facilities.

The Institute has experience in development of urban planning documentation, special sections of projects, individual projects of residential, public, industrial buildings and medical facilities. According to the design documentation developed by the staff of the institute, industrial and civilian buildings were built in the cities of Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan as well as in rural settlements of East Kazakhstan region including in earthquake-prone areas. The design engineers of the Institute developed documentation for reconstruction of Uranium, Tantalum and Beryllium facilities of UMP JSC, the design of which has a special specificity. According to UDI projects, the Monument to those killed in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, the Memorial to V.P. Potanin, bust monument to Ye.P. Slavskyi, as well as the development of Strelka residential district, residential buildings on Republic Square in Ust-Kamenogorsk.

Building the Riverwalk named after Ye.P. Slavskyi was awarded the silver medal of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements of the USSR, and the development project of the central estate of Ulbinsky state farm received diplomas of 1 and 2 degrees at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements of Kazakh SSR and the USSR. The Institute has a group of designers that develops design documentation for non-standardized equipment.

The Institute has certified experts performing expert work and engineering services for:

- Author’s supervision on the facilities of the second and third level of responsibility in terms of load-bearing and enclosing structures and in terms of architecture;

- Technical inspection of reliability and stability of buildings and structures.
