Astana hosted the Republican Defectoscopist Competition, where, on behalf of NAC Kazatomprom and Ulba Metallurgical Plant, Alexey Yuzafovich, a defectoscopist for magnetic and ultrasonic inspection of the Test Centre, demonstrated his skills, high professionalism and competence. He perfectly coped with the difficult task – theoretical and practical parts of the competition: answering questions and finding defects in the welding seam.
– In general, our work is quite interesting – as they say, we see what the others do not see. Occupational safety depends on the results, ’ said Alexey Olegovich.
Special equipment helps the defectoscopist to find hidden defects, cracks, corrosion damage, surface blowhole, non-welds, non-flaws on the technological pipelines and capacitive equipment. These are ultrasonic and eddy current flaw detectors, thickness gauge, ruler, caliper, magnifying glass.
Safety inspections of equipment at all UMP production facilities are carried out on a daily basis, according to the approved schedule. If translated into figures, the plans for 2025 include inspection of 61 units of process pipelines, which is 35,000 linear metres, and 88 units of capacitive equipment at UMP JSC production facilities, which is more than 4,300 m3.
