The Best Young Electrician of UMP JSC Has Been Determined
In an atmosphere of rivalry and desire to win, on October 24, within the walls of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Multidisciplinary Technological College (UK MTK), a review competition «The Best Young Electrician of UMP JSC « was held, timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the plant. 11 young employees from different departments met in an intellectual and practical duel, demonstrating all aspects of their professional skills. A commission was created to conduct the competition, which included representatives of the plant and engineering and pedagogical staff of the college. Ulba residents and teachers jointly developed tasks, prepared a platform for demonstrating the practical and theoretical skills of the contestants.
Since 2017, plant-wide competitions have been held at the premises of the UK MTK, a social partner of the plant that has the necessary material and technical equipment. This approach promotes the popularization of blue-collar jobs among college students and demonstrates the value of the professional skills of each employee.
The competition was held in two stages. In the first stage, the contestants answered 60 theoretical questions in the electronic testing format. In the second, practical stage, in the electrical installation workshop, employees assembled a complex electrical circuit «Connecting an electric motor with control from two points and changing the direction of rotation.»
«It was a real test to confirm knowledge and skills!» says Maxim Zaitsev, the plant's chief power engineer and chairman of the competition committee. «The participants demonstrated a high level of training, although the tasks were not easy. The latter applies to both theory and practice. In general, every year we change the tasks so that the level of professionalism of young Ulba employees constantly increases! At the end of each round, the committee members gave marks, and the winners were determined based on their sum. First place was taken by Sergey Tokarev, second by Oleg Borisov (both from BO), and third rightfully went to Evgeny Pelikh (TO). The winners and participants were awarded diplomas and cash prizes!»
«Despite my great experience, the victory was unexpected! Although I prepared hard, the complexity of both theoretical and practical tasks was impressive. In general, I did everything correctly, but there was some oversight with grounding. This moment will serve as a great lesson for me. If there is an opportunity, I will definitely take part in the next competitions,» said Sergey Tokarev.
At the end of the event, representatives of UMP JSC thanked the teaching staff of the college for organizing the event, noting many years of fruitful cooperation, and presented letters of gratitude to the director and teachers.
«Such competitions are not just a competition, but an important tool for employee development,» explains Aliya Sherimova, Head of HR Department. «The plant and the college have long-standing partnerships, but the most fruitful cooperation has been established since 2013 in terms of training personnel in professions in demand at UMP JSC under the dual training program.»
Dual training is a type of training in which the theoretical part of training takes place at an educational institution, and the practical part takes place at the workplace.
As part of the cooperation, students regularly visit the Exhibition and Information Center, where they learn about the history and products of the plant, and undergo practical training in the departments. UMP JSC employees participate in final certification commissions for assigning qualifications and specialties, are involved as teachers, and also develop educational programs. In addition, the plant's HR specialists, together with college teachers, conduct career guidance activities in the city's schools. UMP JSC expresses gratitude to the representatives of the UK MTK, members of the commission and participants of the competition for their active participation in the preparation and organization of the event at a new high level, interest in the results and the will to win!
